About RENEW
RENEW has found an answer to the yearning many feel for effectiveness, a sense of calm and a positive direction. A goal
of our programs is to reaffirm values and tap into deep sources of energy, motivation, and talent. RENEWing is for
people willing to wonder and quest, people willing to think and explore. The result? Lives, relationships, communities
and organizations with increased tensile strength and resilience.
RENEW’s founding president, Linda Hawes Clever, MD, MACP, internist and occupational health specialist, has a
national reputation for activism and for professional and community service. Galvanized by the growing exhaustion she
saw among fellow health professionals and inspired by the work of John W. Gardner, founder of Common Cause and former
Secretary of Health, Education & Welfare, Dr. Clever and colleagues formally launched RENEW in 2000. A project of
the Institute for Health & Healing at California Pacific Medical Center, our not-for-profit organization is
supported by program fees, grants and individual gifts.
Our lively key-note presentations, workshops and consultations, collegial Conversation Groups©, and the Convener
Development Program appeal across the career spectrum. We work with health professionals, attorneys, teachers,
volunteers, and others in both the not-for-profit and private sector. RENEW offers a special program, renewal for
leaders, that addresses this essential (yet often neglected) element necessary to sustain organizational and individual
effectiveness.
With our active Board of Directors and Panel of Advisors, RENEW continues to build a strong funding base, design new
curricula, and refine evaluation systems. RENEW seeks to thrive, to inspire others, and to stimulate positive change. We
intend to advance the field of renewal and to disseminate our findings.
RENEW is in the forefront of a new movement to sustain the sustainers - the individuals upon whom society depends.
We invite you to join us on the adventure.
