When Leaders RENEW, Organizations Thrive
Dr. Robert Petersdorf, a physician and a leader, said of leaders: "They come in hoping, proceed to coping, and end
up moping."
Why bother leading if the picture is so bleak?
There are plenty of reasons! Leaders have exhilarating opportunities. We are in a unique position to break new ground
and find rough diamonds - people, organizations, institutions - and polish them.
Along with our opportunities, leaders bear so many burdens that resilience and renewal need to be our watchwords. We
need to commit time and energy to the healthy things that propel us forward - living our values, building
community, enjoying time with dear ones, accomplishing the impossible (or at least trying to accomplish the impossible)
- on a regular basis. Taking care of ourselves is not selfish. It's self-preservation. For the long haul.
Leadership experts agree that renewal is key to long-term success. An organization's capacity for dynamic,
creative, sustainable action is a direct result of its leaders' ability to harness the power of personal and
organizational renewal.
We are offering a new program, RENEW for Leaders, to present essential principles and practices that will
transform your life and your organization.
In four intensive workshops held over a year's time, you will:
- study the cornerstones of renewal, with emphasis on the power of turning values into action
- create personal and organizational renewal plans; discover your own deep reservoirs of wisdom and energy; recruit allies and mentors; develop resources
- with fellow leaders, give and receive encouragement so you can put your plans into action
- learn powerful convening techniques
- learn practices such as Careful Listening and ways to avoid meltdown on-and-off-the-job
- enjoy all of the above in excellent company and beautiful surroundings, nourished by delicious, healthful meals.
We'll explore important topics rarely discussed, such as: What is success? ...Getting through a tough
day... Profession and family: walking the tightrope.... Decisions, decisions: basing choices on
values...
Is change an opportunity or an enemy?
Intensive, individual coaching via phone and email with Senior RENEW staff will take place between workshops.
Participants will be able to reach workshop leaders and each other easily and often via email and phone. Individually
scheduled coaching, de-briefing, cheerleading, and feedback via phone and email will be available to RENEW for Leaders
graduates for six months post-program.
